DR PAULA BARRETT RECEIVES AN ABSOLUTE DISCHARGE
On 12th August 2011 the charge of a receiving a dog, brought against Dr Paula
Barrett at the behest of her former neighbour Liam Scanlan was disposed of in the
District Court in Brisbane.
Judge Rafter SC ordered an Absolute Discharge pursuant to s19(1)(a) of the
Penalties and Sentences Act. No conviction was recorded.
For purposes of defraying out of pocket expenses incurred by the complainant, Dr
Barrett offered $5,000. Judge Rafter SC, formalised that offer into the final order
made in the matter noting it was a generous offer.
Though Judge Rafter SC made it clear that there was no evidence before him that
the dog he stated ….” I accept that you were genuinely concerned about the
welfare of the dog…”
